Proud owners of an Airstream!! A couple years ago, I started having this obsession with Airstreams. I saw them everywhere and constantly looked up ones for sale on Craigslist. I image-searched on Google for ways others had fixed theirs up. I finally talked my husband into seriously looking. We looked at a few before we found ours! (Here are our update posts: here and here.)
We drove down to Bakersfield (a three and a half hour drive, so 7 hours of driving that day) to get her. She was worth the drive! I couldn’t help but snap a picture on the drive home even though my mirror was super dirty. This all happened the day after our 14th wedding anniversary so we thought it fitting to call her Annie.
Annie is a 1976 31′ Airstream Sovereign. Her model came with a rear bath, twin beds in the center and a fold out sofa in the front living area.
First day of work…
Quinn couldn’t wait to get started helping!
Here’s the original kitchen, complete with stove and refrigerator.
Here are the twin beds. Left picture taken from the kitchen and right picture taken from the bathroom. Little did we know at this point but hiding in the storage units under these beds were the remains of the Rat family. Mother Rat and her babies had made quite the home there. My husband was the lucky one to evict them!
The avocado green curtains, gold sofa and shag orange carpet… This screams 1970’s to me, don’t you think?!
A tour of the bathroom. Another 70’s creation. I mean, look at the wallpaper!! The sink and a brand new, never used toilet installed by the previous owner.
And yes, we got to keep this vintage towel along with a few others. 😉
What’s in here??
An awesome 8 track player. Another found treasure was the Loretta Lynn 8 track. Score!
The fold up dining table.
And look at this super cute Airstream chair! I’m thinking about recovering it and keeping it in my living room. Gotta find the right fabric though.
Our awnings were in great condition!!
No rear sag here!
Welcome to the Goodfellow fam, Annie!
And the demo begins!!
We decided to take out the sofa and carpet. We have a small tear in the aluminum in one of the front corners and that’s why these wall panels are off. Should be a fairly easy patch job.
Another evicted tenant! The Mouse family was found under the bathtub! They left quite a mess under there. Between water damage and mouse damage, our plan is to replace these floor boards.
We also took out the center beds and all the walls.
Ryan loves this picture of him working on taking the bathroom out. There was just too much damage to try to salvage much.
Quinny helping after preschool. He likes to sit and point out things you should do next. Super helpful! 😉
The sink and bathtub plumbing. We are still trying to figure out the best way to redo it. Should we keep the existing or start new??
The electrical box and water inlet for hook ups.
Here is what Annie looks like today after all the demo. A blank slate ready to be redone. The next item on our to do list is fixing the floor. Once that’s done, we plan on laying new laminate flooring throughout. We also need to clean up the existing walls and maybe paint them. Stay tuned for our progress. Amazing ! I love Airstreams but I don't think I'd ever want to take on a project like this. I'm looking forward to all the changes and the final reveal. 🙂 Good Luck 🙂
Oh, my husband and I love, love, love Airstreams! I can't wait to see the final reveal – please share it with us at the Thank Goodness It's Thursday party when you're done.

I can't wait to see how it all turns out! We have taken our travel trailer (alas, not an airstream) from one side of California to the other – Tahoe to San Francisco, Weed to San Diego! We have so many great camping memories! You guys are going to have so much fun!
Annie is amazing! Can't wait to see updates! Stopping by from My Favorite Things linky party!

That is a project for sure! We are RV owners, so I find this exciting! When we were on vacation last year we ran into many people from WBCCI on their way to the Int'l gathering. I see that your RV used to be in that club.

How fun and a lot of work!! I am quite fond of the name….it was my nickname from my roommate in college. Can't wait to see what you do to beautify Annie!
It looks like a couple of the past owners were members of WBCCI at one time or another. My hubby and I plan to join again once we get Annie up an running. Looking forward to the many adventures we plan on having!!

One of my dearest friends is named Annie. She's so stylish and classic. Another reason why I thought the name fitting for my Airstream. 🙂
