The holiday season is upon us and with it comes the stress of gift giving. I always like to give a thoughtful personal gift if I can. As I was brainstorming a gift for Lara’s birthday in October, I came up with the PERFECT gift but ran out of time to make it. So Lara… don’t read any further!! (Or at least act surprised when you open your present!) I decided to make a Diet Soda Best Friends Gift for her for Christmas! I made us matching tees with a nod to our favorite drink of choice! And yes, we’re totally nerdy enough to wear these out and about! I love how my Cricut Explore Air 2 always makes it possible to create a personalized gift and it doesn’t always need to have names or initials on it! And with it’s bluetooth technology and offline mode, I feel like I can create anywhere and anytime!
Although this post is a tutorial for the tee, I couldn’t just stop there. Cricut just makes personalizing gifts so easy and fun! I put together a whole gift set with a custom coaster and tote bag, a bottle of our fav, coconut syrup and a couple reusable straws!
For this project, you will need:
- Chrome foil iron-on
- Black Infusible Ink transfer sheet
- Cherry Infusible Ink transfer sheet
- Cricut t-shirt (Infusible Ink compatible)
- Cricut Explore Air 2
- EasyPress 2
You can find my Best Friends design here. Cricut Design Space will separate your design onto different mats but you can place them all on the same mat and cut them at once. Be sure to mirror your design, set you dial on custom and choose Infusible Ink sheets as your option and choose the “more pressure” option to get crisp cuts.
I like to bend and peel my mat back instead of my materials so as not to damage my cut designs.
Weed all of cut designs to get them prepped for application. I think weeding is so therapeutic!
Use a lint roller to remove any debris from your t-shirt.
First, set you EasyPress 2 to 315 degrees. Heat your blank tee for 5 seconds and then place your foil iron on. Heat your iron on for 30 seconds, then flip the tee over and heat the back side for an additional 15 seconds.
Peel the transfer sheet away while still warm.
Place a piece of cardstock inside the tee under your foil design. Trim the transfer sheet around the infusible ink designs.
Place the two words accordingly onto the foil design.
Usually when using infusible ink, butcher paper is used between the design and EasyPress but with the foil iron on already affixed, I used my Cricut Iron On Protective Sheet instead. This helped to protect the foil while allowing the infusible ink to be applied.
Set your EasyPress to 385 degrees and then heat your infusible ink for 40 seconds.
I let the design cool for a bit and then peeled away my protective sheet.
I then peeled away the infusible ink designs.
Isn’t it the cutest?! Lara and I have had countless conversations while drinking our McDonald’s $1 diet sodas with light ice. Although those conversations are harder to come by as it’s tougher for us to get together, we still share a bond deeper than our diet soda obsession! Can’t wait to wear these tees together!!
If you’re looking for a gift for your soda-loving bestie, look no further!! This Diet Soda Best Friends Gift idea is the personalized gift you’ve been looking for!
Cricut Explore Air 2 makes personalized holiday gift giving a breeze. It can cut up to 100 different materials and with it’s dual tool holder, can also has writing capabilities!! Imagine the possibilities! I’m giving this gift to Lara… which of your besties would you give it to??
