I had a friend of mine find out she was going to have a boy after having two girls! With her husband being an air traffic controller and their nursery being decorated in vintage airplanes, I thought an airplane-themed baby shower was fitting!!
My first idea was to fill round white balloons and hang airplanes from them. I found cheap airplane gliders and I then spray painted them baby blue and sage to match my theme. After a hole punch and some cute baker’s twine style yarn, they were ready to fly!

You’re flight is now boarding…

I’m not a huge fan of games but this was a fun one! I made a custom crossword puzzle with lesser known facts that I secretly got from the mommy to- be’s family. This helped us all to get to know the future parents better.

What’s a flight without a beverage cart!! I asked to borrow this from our church for the day and it worked perfectly! However this cart is self-serve, no stewardesses here!

The guest of honor is from North Carolina and after a little research, I found out that so is Cheerwine (a cherry flavored soda)!! If you’ve never had it, try it! It’s so good!!

The vintage plane hanging over the food was a surprise gift from the Mommy to- be’s, family. It was fun to be in cahoots with them!
Airplane food never was so good! Here are our boxed lunches, complete with your choice of sandwich and a bag of chips.

A little-packaged pasta salad.

Another discovery from the Mom’s family was a special recipe for cookies they always have at parties…

…as well as cake squares with heavenly blue clouds on top. I found a few vintage suitcases on Craigslist to decorate with also.

Thank you to one of my dearest friends, Annie, for taking these great pictures!! It’s always hard to be the host and to remember to snap pics of everything!

Here is a close up of the goody bags before they were filled. A little luggage tag with the parents’ initial. These tiny suitcases were eventually full of chocolate covered peanuts from See’s Candies. I hope everyone enjoyed their complimentary snack.

All good flights must come to an end! Make sure you don’t leave these bags unattended. 🙂

This is where we like to party!

After you hung the airplanes from the balloons did the balloons stay up in the air or did you fill them with something?
Sorry I forgot to check “Notify Me”. Were the balloons filled with something?
The balloons were filled with helium. I rented a tank for the party knowing that I wanted to use the oversized balloons and filling them at a party store would be really expensive. Thanks for checking out our party and let me know if you have any other questions! 🙂
This is adorable! Where did you find these airplane gliders?
On Amazon! http://amzn.to/2cJhEWB We painted them!
Any advice on painting the planes- mine turned out terrible!
I laid out a painters tarp and spray painted them. I made sure to spray straight down because if I came from the side the planes would “fly” away but not too close to make the paint drippy and thick. Hopefully that helps!! Don’t worry if they aren’t perfect because most people won’t be looking at them up close. 🙂
Thank you!!
What kind of spray paint did you use ? Someone told me that it would eat up the foam . Thank you
Try doing a test on one and see what happens before you paint them all. If that doesn’t work try craft paint, a little more labor but it will do the trick too. Good luck!
Where did you find those cute suitcase take home gifts? Darling party by the way! Thank you for sharing!
Also, where did you get the stickers you put on the plastic food containers? So cute!! Thank you!
The spray paint ate up the foam planes! Sad!
Has anyone tried painting the airplanes with plane old craft paint? I am not crafty so I don’t know whether that would work well or not. Also, I guess the balloons need to be filled with helium, rather than just buying some you can blow up, so that they will stay with the airplanes tied on like that? Would love to hear from anyone who has tried this at home!
Craft paint would totally work too! And yes, you need helium to stay up. Thanks for stopping by, Meg!
Hi!
Do you remember what size balloons you used and how many of them to fill the ceiling?
I’m pretty sure they were 12″ globe balloons. I didn’t fill the entire ceiling, just the center area so I probably used around 12-15. It really was such a fun feature! Thanks for asking!
Hi! Such a cute theme and decor. Question…did you just use the white balloons at the party store or did you specifically order round white ones? Thank you.
